about

The Wayne-Union County CASA Program is affiliated with the Indiana State Office of GAL/CASA, which is part of the Indiana Supreme Court, Division of State Court Administration, and a member of National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).  We are certified by the State Office and comply with the Indiana Supreme Court Program Standards and Code of Ethics for GAL/CASA programs.

Indiana has one of the largest networks of GAL/CASA programs in the nation. In 2023, 2,966 active volunteers advocated for children involved in 17,406 CHINS cases. The Wayne-Union County CASA Program supported volunteers to advocate for over 118 children in 2023 with many remarkable success stories. Approximately 11 volunteer advocates served these vulnerable children in 2023 but there is a tremendous need for additional volunteers.

The Wayne-Union County CASA Program recruits, trains, and supports CASA volunteers in both Wayne and Union Counties. As a CASA volunteer, you will gather information, get to know the abused or neglected child, help them understand what is going on in the case, determine their needs, and recommend what is in the child’s best interest. By presenting the best interests of abused and neglected children to the court, advocates help judges to make better and more informed decisions about children so they can be returned home or placed in a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible.
